My first Free form crochet scrumble

Hi,

Today it is about blogs and crochet. More specifically.. about freeform crochet. I got interested in FreeForm Crochet in 2012, but since I got a bit ill.. I had to sort of give it up and focus on my health. Now, with more energy and many plans in mind, I picked up where I left of... so this weekend I made this Scrumble!! I am so so proud of myself. I always thought I could not create a thing with needles or hook, but I had to challenge myself and worked just fine :) In fact, I am planning on doing a scrumble a week.. hopefully by the end of the year I will have enough to make something fun with them ;)

Part of what pushed me to try it was this book I ordered from Heather aka girlwithahook. I am so inlove with her creations! She is absolutely talented and makes the most amazing FFHats!  I hope soon to buy one soon. Here is her book:

Look at this hat of her!! OMG, I wish I had known about her sooner.. this one is part of her sold ones already. Isn't it amazing?

Anyway, I have a collection of books I like having on hand for inspiration. Inspiration to appreciate beauty more than creative inspiration. It is so awesome to be surrounded of pretty things.

I scouted the internet for FFCrochet art pieces and for my surprise I found so so many! I also found many blogs with amazing tutorials in different languages :)

Here are my findings, which I collected in Pinterest

I also met this Italian lady online, she crochets the cutest floral motifs. I bought one of her pattern books and we are talking on working together to translate it in English!

Here is one of her floral creations:

It was so funny to communicate with her.. my Italian was soo poor and her English.. well, let's say we were in the same page about languages! She was a sweetheart though. We were both armed' with Google translator! haha! I told my husband that I have to go back and undust my Italian as learning and knowing a language opens so many doors and windows to new possibilities! It is like entering into a whole new world!

All of her patterns use Coats yarn, unfortunately the line is not available in the US.. however, I am scouting for alternatives. I cannot stop! I need to find the right yarn for the motifs. If not, then I will do them chunky or spin it myself.. for a reason I am a spinner!

With this crocheting new obsession'.. I have come to realize that more than half of my blog feed is in other languages haha! I have to learn French, Italian, Russian and Romanian now! lol Wouldn't be amazing that we all came with different interchangeable chips of languages? Wishful thinking... Anyway, I will write tomorrow again, this time I will share some of the coolest blogs I found ;)

Change is good

It is incredible how much one can change and a given period of time. Nowadays with the technology we have at our fingertips we can see so much about our past. After a long absence, I was reviewing my Pinterest, Flickr, Twitter, and rss feed and saw what I used to pin/save/tweet/read. Even my blogger profile! I had to change my interests.. I no longer liked the same bands/music or same artists. Truth is, that we all evolve. Some people tell us at times in an incriminating way the classic: 'you have changed'. We all change! Those who say they don't change.. it is because they are outdated' and or lying. Change is good, in fact change is NEEDED in order to improve. Who does not want to improve, heck! I want to improve!

For instance, my interests have changed.. I used to be interested in so many crafts, but now I have chosen one only: fibers. How funny, I used to be all over the place and spending loads of money in buying supplies for a craft that I was not going to pursue anyway. I have so much stuff and so many supplies sitting in boxes. I have clay, paints, brushes, trims, paper, tools, watercolors, more paper, more tools lol! I am sure one day I will be ready to use them.. I think it will be sooner than I think! In fact, I just ordered my self a cute book.

You know what rocks? that at ever turning point and change, we discover a new side of us we had not met. It is like knowing a new person! I think it is fascinating. I compare this self discovery to the moment we do Spring cleaning.. we go to that closet and find things we forgot we had! It feels like Christmas all over haha!

Like I said.. I went back to two years ago.. when I was into dollmaking and I bought some online videos for drawing dolls. While I am good at pencil and realistic drawing, I am not so good and drawing fanciful things. So two years ago I quit and put it to the side. Now, again after a mild break from the fiber world, I went back to my blog reading and flickr and saw what my interests were back then. It immediately snapped at me that I wanted to learn how to draw and play with mixed media! After all, I still have lots of supplies and glitter hehe Also, I am getting ready to create a website for my new business and thought 'I can make my own illustrations, or at least try'. I was looking for cute webs and came across a Mix Media artists (pardon my memory.. I cannot remember her name!). She has the cutest web, and there, that moment.. was the moment I thought 'hand-made', that is what I want. Yes, the company will be a serious one, but I want to always remind myself that 'hand-made' is what got to me into this.

Anyway, just to go back to the same topic.. I will be trying to make Mixed media dollies in 2D. The idea excites me! I am waiting for the book to arrive, this will give me enough time to undust/unbox all those goodies :)

See? after all, change is not bad at all.. I'd say ;)

Have a great one!

Someone is watching after you from the sky

Ohhh how much we all love to dream! I find my self often thinking on beautiful locations or talking to my kitty about what I wish. I know it sounds crazy, but hey! having a furry friend you know for sure he will be there and listen without giving you trouble.

Anyway, today scouting the internet came across this cute animations and thought to share with you. Never stop dreaming, live if beautiful and remember there is still beautiful magic' out there!

What do you do when you feel you are not creative anymore?

I have been back on blogging and at my fiber world for a month or so.. but now, I feel a bit strange. Not sure if its the gloomy day or the workload at my regular job.

I have always dreamed and have had mental escapades to these wonderful worlds where my imagination had been nurtured and fed. This always kept my creative endeavors going. I love whimsy, quirky, fantasy.. but nothing comes to mind. Now, I am just not sure what is happening... I feel like a dry pond.

I was thinking of reading a fantasy book or watching a couple of those movies.. any documentaries or even children's books! At times, I just go to flickr and start visually traveling but today I feel a bit down.

For what is worth, last week dyed some doll hair.. Colors are pretty, but it is not about the colors.. it is me, something is missing :(

What do you do when you feel you are not creative anymore?
